Legal Advisor IP and Licensing in the Office for Partnership, Knowledge and Technology Transfer at the University of Luxembourg.

Sigmar specializes in identifying intellectual property assets in research results and developing the university's IP portfolio. He advises on proof-of-concept projects, facilitates technology transfer into spin-off companies, negotiates license agreements, and provides guidance on collaborative research projects with industry partners.

Sigmar directs ASTP's training courses on Software-Specific Challenges in Licensing and Research & Development Collaborations and joined ASTP's Professional Development Committee in 2022. He regularly teaches course modules on general IP-awareness for researchers, with a particular focus on the patentability of computer-implemented inventions as well as software and data licensing.

With over 10 years' experience as a qualified European Patent and European Trademark Attorney in private practice, Sigmar has represented an international client base before patent and trademark offices. He also served as a director for a software company developing a web-based IP-asset management system.

Sigmar began his career in intellectual property as an examiner at the European Patent Office in The Hague, Netherlands. He holds a degree in semiconductor engineering from RWTH Technical University Aachen, Germany.
