Lisa Cowey has been involved in technology licensing for over 30 years since she completed her PhD and joined Oxford Instruments, an established university spinout specialising in superconductivity and cryogenic instrumentation. Gaining access to external IPR was a feature of the venture backed start-up she was then involved with in the USA and the value of the IPR portfolio was critical to a subsequent successful trade sale in Germany. On her return to the UK Lisa managed the Alchemists business angel network for UK universities in the south of England.
Since 2006 Lisa has worked with Technology Transfer Offices in newer EU member states and accession countries to build capacity for technology transfer. Between 2019 and 2021 she helped to deliver the EU funded service Provision of Intellectual Property (IP) services to European Universities and Public Research Organisations (‘IP Booster’). She is currently the technical coordinator for the EU Funded ‘IMPAC3T IP initiative’ and supporting the EC with policy recommendations for the FP10 programme.
