You shape spinouts, negotiate strategic deals, and turn research into real-world solutions. Now it’s time to be recognised for it. The RTTP application closes on 5 August 2025 — apply now!

The Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) designation is the international gold standard for professionals in knowledge and technology transfer. It formally recognises your experience, achievements, and impact in advancing innovation. Whether you're based in a university, research institute, hospital, or enterprise, RTTP shows the world that you operate at the highest level of professional practice.

RTTP is awarded by the Alliance of Technology Transfer Professionals (ATTP) — the global body for professional standards in this field. As a founding member of ATTP, ASTP strongly encourages its members to consider applying for RTTP status. It’s an important step for those seeking formal recognition of their contributions to the profession, and a valuable tool for career development. RTTP holders join a global network of professionals committed to innovation and strengthening the role of research in society.

Why RTTP matters

RTTP status:

  • Confirms your professional competence and credibility

  • Strengthens your position within your organisation and the wider innovation ecosystem

  • Connects you to a global community of experienced and trusted peers

It’s not a training course. It’s not an exam. RTTP is based on real, demonstrable achievements — the work you’ve already done. If you have at least three years of relevant experience and can demonstrate successful outcomes in areas like licensing, spinouts, collaboration, or consultancy, you may already qualify.

How to gain CE points

To be eligible for RTTP, applicants must also provide evidence of Certified Experience (CE) points. These points reflect your participation in recognised professional development activities in the field of knowledge and technology transfer.

You can gain CE points by completing:

  • Accredited training courses and masterclasses

  • Professional development events offered by ATTP member organisations such as ASTP

  • Programmes that have received ATTP CE accreditation

Many of ASTP’s training courses, masterclasses, and events are already CE accredited, meaning they count directly towards your application. If you're building your portfolio or preparing to apply in future rounds, these activities are a valuable way to both upskill and meet eligibility criteria. Explore our upcoming events here.
