Jos van der Wijst – Intellectual Property, IT, and AI Lawyer
Jos van der Wijst is a partner at BG.legal and specialises in intellectual property (IP) and IT law. He advises innovative companies, working closely with entrepreneurs to identify where know-how is generated within their business, how it can be protected, commercialised, and defended against infringement. His clients range from start-ups to scale-ups and established businesses, primarily in the technology and life sciences/pharmaceutical sectors.
Jos provides legal advice on data-related matters and the application of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), IoT, blockchain, and patent law. He is a member of a core team within the Netherlands AI Coalition and serves on the NEN Standards Committee for Artificial Intelligence and Big Data, which develops standards for AI applications. He also conducts AI Impact Assessments (IAMI) and advises both technology-driven companies and their clients on contracts, IP strategies, investments, acquisitions, and regulatory compliance.
In patent law, Jos supports both patent holders and those accused of infringement, representing clients in litigation when necessary. He is based primarily at the Brainport Industries Campus in Eindhoven and is frequently found at the Life Sciences campus Pivot Park in Oss, where he collaborates with innovative businesses to identify opportunities and solutions. He also conducts IP due diligence for investors.
