He is Head of the Department of “Digital Linguistics” at the Leibniz Institute for the German Language, university professor for Computational Humanities & Text Technology at the University of Mannheim as well as honorary professor for Digital Humanities at the University of Heidelberg.
Prof. Dr. Andreas Witt studied Linguistics, Informatics and Psychology at the University of Bielefeld. He is Head of the Department of “Digital Linguistics” at the Leibniz Institute for the German Language, university professor for Computational Humanities & Text Technology at the University of Mannheim as well as honorary professor for Digital Humanities at the University of Heidelberg. From 2017 until 2019, he was professor for Digital Humanities at the University of Cologne.
The Department of “Digital Linguistics” consists of two areas: the area of‘research infrastructures’, which is led by Prof. Witt himself, and the area of “corpus linguistics”, which is led by Dr. Marc Kupietz. In addition, Prof. Witt is currently responsible for the coordination of the following projects at the IDS: “Forschungskooperation und Vernetzung”, “Langzeitarchivierung, Standards und Recht” (together with Dr. Marc Kupietz), “TextTransfer”, “CLARIAH-DE”, and “CLARIN-D” (both together with Prof. Dr. Henning Lobin), “Leibniz-WissenschaftsCampus”. Since September 12019, Witt is also a member of the Board of Directors at the European Infrastructure Consortium CLARIN ERIC.
