Joint IP in Research Collaborations
When a university collaborates with another university and/or an industry partner in a research project, intellectual property (IP) may arise to which multiple parties might wish to lay claim. To avoid conflicts at that stage, it is advisable to regulate the handling of joint IP before the project begins, typically through a project agreement.
This session brings together the members of the Legal SIG community to exchange insights and experiences on joint IP in collaborative research projects. The goal is to foster open discussion around legal challenges, institutional practices, and shared strategies.
The meeting will begin with a short introduction. The core of the session will be interactive breakout discussions in small groups, where participants can share perspectives and explore specific questions. Each group will briefly report back to the plenary, and the meeting will close with a reflection on key takeaways and open questions for further exploration.
