Olaf Kelm heads the Resource Mobilization and Management Group at the International Agency for Research on Cancer
Olaf Kelm heads the Resource Mobilization and Management Group at the International Agency for Research on Cancer. His team is involved in proactively identifying opportunities for strategic partnerships and funding opportunities matching IARC’s areas of work. The group works with scientists to identify opportunities and to respond to them strategically, and provides project management, budget and financial support.
Olaf Kelm is a molecular biologist by training, holds an MBA and is certified in Management, Project Management and Accountancy. He spent 17 years working for international organisations in grant support, resource mobilisation and project and financial management functions. This included working at the European Commission under Framework Progammes 5, 6 and 7, as well as working as Head of Grants Office and more recently as Head of Resource Mobilization and Management at the International Agency for Research on Cancer.
As part of his work, Olaf Kelm built a large portfolio of training workshops ranging from grant writing, project pitching and grantmanship to project, task, and financial management. He equally taught on related subjects such as efficient communication, leadership and career planning. He participated in numerous summer schools, career days, roundtable discussions and formal training at the Agency as well as Universities and Research Centres in France, Germany, Norway, Russia, China and South Africa. Across the above range of subject areas, he has taught in more than 70 training events reaching almost 1700 participants, and held grant- and management related presentations in over 50 occasions, in English, French and German.
In March 2020, Olaf Kelm took up the position of Chief Operations Officer for the Human Science Frontier Program.
