Health Innovation Summit 2024

The highly anticipated Health Innovation Summit 2024 will be held on 23rd October at the Erste Campus, located in Vienna’s dynamic new “Quartier Belvedere” district. 

One of the key themes of this year’s event will centre on a pressing issue within healthcare: the patient as an undervalued resource. This concept was highlighted at last year’s summit by Bertalan Meskó, known as the Medical Futurist, who declared, “The patient is the most underused resource in the system.”

Another prominent voice, Lucien Engelen, called for what he described as a “Copernican moment” in healthcare. He advocated for a radical shift in focus, where instead of the patient revolving around healthcare professionals, the opposite should occur. This shift towards patient centricity goes beyond simply placing the patient at the heart of care; it requires active patient engagement, supported by technology, to streamline services and rethink the patient journey, even before they require care.

Many experts believe that embracing this shift is the solution to one of healthcare’s greatest challenges: delivering higher-quality care with fewer resources.
