Jaci is the Head of Research Commercialisation and Investment at the University of Bristol and has over 15 years’ experience in research commercialisation and technology transfer. She was previously the President of the Southern African Research and Innovation Management Association and is currently the Chair of the Course Review Committee for the Alliance of Technology Transfer Professionals. She has an undergraduate and master’s degree (by research) in Chemical Engineering from the University of Natal, Durban, South Africa and an MBA (cum laude) from the University of Pretoria. After starting her career in industry, she moved to a Contract Research Organisation where she managed a research group focused on food science and technology research and development. In 2005, she joined the commercialisation company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg as Chief Operations Officer and, in 2007, moved to Port Elizabeth and established the Innovation Office at Nelson Mandela University where she was Director for ten years. In that role she was responsible for contract research, innovation and commercialisation, and also set up and established a business incubator and a regional innovation forum. She joined the University of Bristol in June 2017 as Senior Investment and Commercialisation Manager and became head of the team in 2019.
