The Biomedical Research Institute is looking for a Business Developer in the field of life sciences and innovation policy.
About the BIOMED
Scientific research at the Biomedical Research Institute (BIOMED) of Hasselt University is aimed at providing a better understanding of disease processes of (auto)immune, neurological and cardiometabolic disorders. In these domains, high technology basic and translational research is carried out that ultimately benefits the patient and healthcare through prevention, diagnostics and personalized therapy.
BIOMED is looking for an additional business developer to strengthen its valorisation-oriented activities. The business developer is based at BIOMED/UHasselt, Campus Diepenbeek.About the function:
As business developer of BIOMED, the following tasks and responsibilities are set forward:
- Stay well informed about new strategic developments in innovation policy and the industry sector in the field of life sciences (in vitro diagnostics, nutrition, personalized medicine, cell therapy).
- Internal scouting by BIOMED scientists: identifying and supervising valorisation and innovation projects: patents, spin-offs, etc..
- Supporting valorisation oriented project proposals: FWO-SB, SBO, VLAIO, O&O, EU, MEDVIA ...;
- Co-creating networks with relevant academic, clinical and industrial partners.
- Identifying companies that are important partners for BIOMED through participation in network events, (inter)national seminars and trade fairs.·Drawing up and following up quotations, work plan and contracts with industry partners for services and contract research in close collaboration with the BIOMED Tech team Board.
- Developing and maintaining good cooperation with strategic partners: Tech Transfer and Research Coordination Office of UHasselt, BioVille, LRM, Health Campus, Flanders Bio, Flanders Vaccine, Euregional life sciences partners, ....
- Developing or further optimizing communication tools for business contacts to strengthen BIOMED’s international visibility (website, brochure, CRM, etc.).
Your profile:
- You have a PhD in life sciences, pharmacy or business economics or at least 5 years' experience in business development and/or applied scientific research at a knowledge institution or company (or equal).
- You have good knowledge of the life sciences sector.
- You have a proven affinity with the private sector (preferably in the biotech, pharma sector, nutrition).
- You have experience in setting up new collaborations.
- You have experience with applied biomedical research (patents, licenses, contract research) is an asset.
- You have experience with writing of valorisation oriented grants is an asset.
- Experience with marketing and sales is an asset.
- You have excellent communication skills, easy networker, team player.
- You have independent, results oriented, good planning and organisational skills.
- You communicate fluently in written and spoken English.
BIOMED offer:
You will be appointed and paid as business developer. BIOMED offers you an 80-100% employment as IOF business developer (BAP) with a contract of indefinite period. This vacancy is financed via the industrial research fund (IOF) of Hasselt University, which focuses on the valorization of its own research and technology.
