Christian Stein is CEO of Ascenion GmbH, a hundred percent subsidiary of the LifeScience Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Research.
Ascenion works together with more than 20 public research organizations from the Helmholtz and Leibniz Associations and several Medical Schools on the commercial exploitation of research results and inventions in the pharma, biotech and medical technology fields. Ascenion also has an equity arm, and holds equity in about 25 startup companies in the life science sector.
Before becoming CEO of Ascenion in 2001, Christian Stein headed the project management department at the Fraunhofer Patent Centre for German Research. He is a chairman of the MGC Foundation and was until recently board member of the global Association of Technology Transfer Professionals (ATTP). From November 2014 to May 2016 he was President of ASTP-Proton, the European Association for Knowledge and Technology Transfer Professionals.
Christian Stein has founded a number of companies in and outside the biotechnology field. He is consultant and advisor to various EU programs and regional and national expert groups, and serves on the advisory board of several biotechnology companies.
Christian Stein holds a PhD in molecular biology and obtained a Master of Science (MSc) in the Management of Intellectual Property Law in London.
